Quotes by Gérard de Nerval
French poet, 1808–1855
Gérard Labrunie, known as Gérard de Nerval, is one of the most mysterious poets of French Romanticism. A translator of Goethe’s Faust at twenty, the author of Sylvie, Aurélia and the sonnets of Les Chimères, he blended dream and memory in a prose of rare clarity. He was found hanged in a Paris alley one January night in 1855.
