Quotes by Leo Tolstoy
Russian writer, 1828–1910
A count and landowner, Leo Tolstoy wrote at his estate of Yasnaya Polyana the two novels that made him one of the greatest writers of all time: War and Peace (1865–1869) and Anna Karenina (1875–1877). A spiritual crisis then led him to preach non-violence, poverty and love of one’s neighbour, until his flight from home and his death in a railway station in 1910.
